More chief applications received

Mayor will select

"I'm going through the applications," Mayor Jackie Crabtree said of the 24 applications received for the position of chief of police. He said he will not present the applications to the City Council nor have a committee assist him with the decision.

"I'm doing it myself," he said, adding that he would not have the decision made by Feb. 1, the retirement date for Chief of Police Tim Ledbetter.

Other applications received include:

• Timmy K. Porter, Alma, Ark., who is currently a tanker driver and worked for the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith, Police Department from 2011-2012, Sebastian County Sheriff's Department from 2010-2011, was chief of police in Mulberry, Ark., from 2005-2008, worked for the Crawford County Sheriff's Office from 2001-2005 and was chief of police in Dyer, Ark., from 1999-2001.

• Clinton E. Strong, Wichita, Kan., has 10 years law enforcement experience, was chief of police in Cave Springs from 2002-2005, and has worked at Taney County, Mo., Sheriff's Office and Little Flock Police.

• John Riggins, Conway, has 35 years law enforcement experience, 26 of which was in criminal investigations. He worked at Faulkner County Sheriff's Office, XNA Police Department, Forrest City Police Department and Washington County Sheriff's Office and was acting chief of police in Colt, Ark.

• John M. Hicks, Pea Ridge, currently a corporal with NWACC Police, has worked for the Lowell Police Department and the Little Flock Police Department. He has 19 years experience in law enforcement.
