Blackhawk varsity cheerleaders won first place in the state cheer competition Saturday. This was the first year in more than 10 years that the girls have competed in the 4A All-Girl division.
"As a first year coach, of course this made me nervous," Noelle Littrell-Webb, coach, said. "They competed against 15 other teams, much of them who they have never competed against ever since they are usually Co-Ed."
"We were awarded a bid to nationals and first place in the 4A All-Girl division. Nashville (who we played and lost to in the football playoffs) came in as runner ups."
"We definitely had the odds stacked against us with me being a first-year coach and have never competed in this division (which is rumored to be one of the hardest divisions in State Cheer), but the girls pulled through and beat the runner up by 5 points (this is considered a very large gap for cheer, most cases are close with their being a gap of less than a point between first and second place)."
"Saturday was a great day full of stiff competition. I am very proud of them!"
