Gateway seeks tax

GATEWAY -- City officials want revenue to meet the needs of the residents of the community, including building and maintaining infrastructure.

At the October 2015 City Council meeting, council members voted to place a 1 percent city sales tax on the March 1, 2016, ballot.

"The tax dollars would help provide funds to maintain Gateway streets, improve and maintain the Gateway City Park and help provide money for local law enforcement," Mayor Frank Hackler said.

"A 'yes' vote is a vote that benefits you and your neighbors," Hackler said.

The town currently receives funds from the Benton County sales tax, but does not have a city sales tax. Revenues received so far this year are: $5,879, January; $6,799, February; $6,219, March; $5,740, April; $6,679, May; $6,284, June; $6,314, July; $6,986, August; and $6,325, September.

In northeast Benton County, Avoca, Garfield and Pea Ridge have municipal sales tax.
