Photographer and Newspaper Columnist

Shiloh Museum photo archivist Marie Demeroukas will discuss the life and work of Marion Mason, an early 1900s photographer and newspaper columnist from the Washington County community of Johnson, at noon Wednesday, Aug. 19, in the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. As a correspondent to the Springdale News for 40 years, Mason, writing under the pen name "Mulkeepmo," recorded the weekly news from Johnson. He was also a remarkable amateur photographer, capturing such things as Frisco train wrecks, strawberry harvests, neighborhood children, Sunday outings, schoolteachers and the goings-on at the lime kilns.

"Mason covered it all, and through his camera lens and fountain pen, we're able to catch a glimpse of small-town life in the early 1900s," said Demeroukas.
