GARFIELD -- Alderman Bill Matthew Jr. wants bids on a backhoe Mayor Gary Blackburn proposed buying for $54,899, after trade in.

"The new backhoe has enhanced productivity features," Blackburn said. "We have the money."

"That's too much money," Matthew said. "The expense doesn't outweigh the benefits. When you spend that kind of money, the revenue has to come out of the public's billfold here. And another question, has there been any bids made on other tractors?"

All four aldermen voted in favor of seeking bids.
