Middle School adds electives

Pea Ridge Middle School will follow the same format as the Pea Ridge High School helping students develop skills in responsibility. There is a new lobby with new safety procedures as well as TV monitors in the hallways for communication.

"It's a very positive place to be for students and adults," Matthew Wood, principal, said. This is Wood's second year as principal at the Middle School. Leslie Moline, master teacher, is assistant principal.

Wood said the flex mod schedule at the middle school won't be as "open" as at the high school but students will be encouraged to learn independently as well as have structured learning environments with the teachers. "We'll be building literacy skills, social development and an advisory program."

"I think we are looking forward to an environment that will help students be the most successful," Wood said, adding that the staff has created a learning environment that will help kids be as successful as they can be. "We're offering new classes, more STEM electives ... including a sixth-grade drama elective."

Parents are encouraged to sign up for School Reach to stay abreast of developments in the school.
