Questions of the Pea Ridge School's solvency, whether teachers would be paid, or even whether the school would open next fall, surfaced in hot discussion last Thursday night at a special School Board meeting. According to financial consultant Theresa Pockrus, the district has not only incurred a building cost overrun of about $30,000, but will come up about $115,000 short for salaries and operations by June 30, and may face a deficit of $250,000 or more by Aug. 31.

In response to criticism of the Pea Ridge District 109 financial status, Ron Foster, president of the board of education, and the administration worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday, went to Little Rock to the Department of Education Monday morning, then Monday night, at the regular board meeting, the board approved a statement of condition. The statement said there will be a $43,514 balance in school funds at the end of this fiscal year, June 30, 1985. It also confirms that there will be school in Pea Ridge next year.

Pea Ridge National Military Park lost a valuable member of its staff with the death of park historian Doug Keller. Keller died suddenly in his sleep Sunday, April 24. As his death was unexpected, the park is in quite a state of shock.

Several years ago, Pea Ridge Church of Christ member Dott Webb made a gift of Wal-Mart stock to the church. The stock's sale financed a $600,000 construction project recently completed. Thus, the new Church of Christ fellowship building is called the Dott Webb Family Center and a dedication service was held Sunday afternoon.
