Three pets were killed in a fire that destroyed the home of Tim and Paula Immel.

Firefighters from two departments fought the blaze and kept the flames from spreading Wednesday morning, April 15. The three bedroom house on the southwest corner of Patton and Roland David roads northeast of Pea Ridge had been the Immel's home for the past four years.

"It's a good thing my blinds were open," Donna France, neighbor, said, explaining that she had gone into a room that faces the southwest and saw the flames and the smoke, then dialed 911. France tried calling the owner of the home, which was rented to the Immels.

Initially, neither France nor anyone contacted knew if the residents were home.

The Immels arrived an hour after firefighters arrived on the scene. They had a dog and two cats in the house, all of which perished in the fire.

"Abby, we had her about eight years. She was the best dog," cried Paula Immel.

"My medicines," Tim Immel said with concern, explaining that he is a disabled carpenter and has health problems that require him to take several medications daily.

"Only by the grace of God are they still here," Keith English, neighbor, said.

Firefighters from Pea Ridge and Northeast Benton County Volunteer fire departments worked diligently to extinguish the flames.
