Authors visit library for book signing

If you were not one of the nearly 70 people who visited the book signing at the library on Saturday, you really missed out. We were honored to meet authors Dawn Bohl and Lynette Schmitt who wrote "The Bible Ladies of Mountain, Missouri: The Ministry of Marjorie Barnhart and Virginia Boucher" and especially pleased to meet Ms. Boucher! So many people came to purchase a book and have it autographed by Ms. Virginia but several people brought copies that had previously been purchased to be signed. Everyone seemed to have a very good time. Thank you, Dawn, for choosing the Pea Ridge Community Library to host this book signing. The members of the Library Board and I very much appreciate receiving copies of the book. A copy will be available for check-out this week.

Thank you to Patti, Donna, Cinda and Laura for all their help in making this event such a success.

Plans are in the works for a book signing in May for the book "Twist" by Karen Akins. This is the sequel to her book "Loop." Ms. Akins was at our library in December and spoke with some school students and their teacher at a book signing. We look forward to welcoming her back to the library.

Ms. Cheryl and Ms. Jacki read to the children Saturday morning. We didn't have a large turnout but suspect that the numbers will grow once school is out and more people realize we are open on Saturdays.

Books, books, books and magazines, magazines, magazines -- we are drowning in them. Books in like new condition are being donated weekly. If you collect books by a certain author or know someone who does and are seeking a particular title, come by or call the library. We may be able to help you out and our prices are really reasonable.

Don't forget that the library will host a Summer Reading Program during June. This is open to children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Parents or guardians must register their children. Each child will receive a Reading Record Sheet to record the name of each book they read. Books must be on the child's reading level or above. Books below their reading level will not qualify. Prizes will be awarded to the child who reads the most in their grade level and a prize will be awarded to the child who reads the most books overall. More information will be available at the library in May and information will be given to the Pea Ridge School District for distribution to the students.

There have been some inquiries regarding a book club that could meet at the library. Do you want to participate, afternoons or evenings, etc. -- let me know your thoughts?

See you at the library!
