More books donated; what are your favorites?

Last week I wrote about my experience at the DMV office in renewing my driver's license. At the end of the article I wrote that I would show my driver's license photo and reveal my age for a donation to the library building fund. I am very sad to say that we didn't raise a penny! Will pick up my ego and try to find a more profitable fund raiser. I was sure we would make at least $25!

Thanks to all of you told me how much you enjoyed that column and shared your experiences with me. I am glad you enjoyed it and it made you laugh.

While the cooler temperatures have been a welcome respite from our summer heat, I hate that it signals the end of fresh veggies and fruits. How fortunate we are to have such a good Farmers' Market here in Pea Ridge. I stopped by there Sunday afternoon; there was such a nice selection of homemade bread, at least 27 kinds of jams and jellies, including watermelon; lots of veggies, at least three varieties of apples, grapes, fresh meats, cookies and more.

We are swimming in donated books -- they have been coming in by the box full. We are sorting, processing, etc. A few months ago we received a very large donation of science fiction/fantasy books. Now we have a dilemma. Are any of you interested in reading these books? There is limited shelf space and we want to use that space for materials our patrons are interested in reading. Give us your thoughts i.e. favorite authors, genre, etc.

It is budget time again for all departments in the city. If there is something more you would like to have access to at the library let us know right away as the board will begin preliminary budget work soon. Keep in mind that we have a limited budget so some things are not in the realm of possibility at this time.

Are you aware that we offer fax and copy service in addition to having six public use computers?

Do you know anyone who would be interested in becoming a tutor with the Benton County Literacy Council? There is a need for a person in the Pea Ridge area to tutor. Currently the person needing this service is driving to Bentonville. The library has a room suitable for tutoring and we are open on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Get out and enjoy this weather by making a visit to the library!

See you there!
