Planning Commission approves rezone

In a brief meeting Tuesday, Sept. 2, Planning Commission members approved rezoning 981 N. Curtis Ave. from commercial to residential. There was no one to speak in opposition to the request from property owner Jerry Collins at the public hearing.

In other business, planners discussed traffic and reviewed traffic counts provided by planner M.J. Hensley.

"I thought we were led to believe that the Highway Department was a little flexible on fixing It'll Do Road and Arkansas Highway 72," Jerry Burton, planner, said. "That is the most critical point. That's where we have the most accidents in town."

"Nathan's (Street Department superintendent Nathan See) still in contact with them," Tony Townsend, building official said. "The county dropped the ball and then picked it up again. It's not dead yet."

"Ultimately that's a western bypass for Pea Ridge," Hensley said. "It's hard to take downtown money and use on a bypass."

Jerry Burton. years ago made a commitment to deer meadows to curb and gutter... and widen.

Tony. had to fill drainage ditches.. be/c so many people nose diving into.

Burton said that the speed on State Hwy. 72 coming into town from the west should be reduced.

"If Bentonville can reduce speed from valley to top of hill, we ought to be able to," Burton said referring to the highway on the west side of Sugar Creek valley between Pea Ridge and Bentonville. "Something needs to be done. It needs to be investigated ... reduce speed there."
