The Pea Ridge varsity girls cross country squad slogged through deep standing water and rain to claim a second place team finish in the Shiloh Championship held in Springdale Saturday. The junior high harriers finished third in their division, missing second by 5 points to Shiloh, 42-47. Berryville was the overall champion with 33 points.
Finishing behind the hosts by 11 points, 22-33, the high school Lady 'Hawks placed three athletes in the top in the 5A-4A division of the competition. Senior Mikhaela Cochran led the way with an eighth place finish, covering the 3.1 mile course in 25:44.
Not far behind her was Gloria Vargas who finished ninth in 25:55 with Rilee Patrick rounding out the top 10 in 26:52. Avery Dayberry was 15th in 28:13, with Rebecca Wood taking 17th (30:34), Ashtyn Mondy 18th (33:04), Shay Honn 19th (33:05) and Melanie Beeler 20th (35:21).
The junior high leader was Katelyn Swope who finished a school best fourth overall, running the 1.5 mile course in 15:31. Hollyn Davis was the other top 10 finisher for the Blackhawks, taking eighth in 15:43. Porshia Polanowski was 12th in 16:22, with Cassidy Mooneyhan 13th in 16:30, Cailey Bowie 15th (16:56), Allie Wilson 17th (17:13), Koley Evenson 22nd (18:30), Keera Todd 23rd (18:53), Emma Bryant 24th (20:04), Madison Pitts 25th (20:57), Kadense McDonald 26th (21:39), and Breanna Brungardt 27th (22:03).
Both squads return to action this Saturday at the Elkins Cross Country Championship meet.
