GATEWAY -- Two people are vying for an alderman seat in Gateway.

Cheryl Ann Tillman is seeking re-election.

Ricky Behrends is seeking her seat.

Tillman, a native of Garfield is a paraprofessional at Pea Ridge Alternative Learning Education Academy.

Behrends grew up in Rogers and drives a forklift at Glad Manufacturing.

Behrends

Behrends said the main reason he is running for office is to fulfill his civic duty. He said someone asked him if he would consider running and he liked the idea.

"I feel like I can put my two cents in. Like with other people who say don't complain if you don't vote, well, I want to serve."

Behrends said he has never run for a political office before.

"I really don't see any issues in Gateway. I'm happy there living the country life. It's out aways from Rogers, Bentonville -- even Pea Ridge is big," he said.

He said he had heard peole complain about keeping the roads maintained or getting them paved, but said he realized that as a small town, Gateway may not have the funds for that.
