Time for a good read

I hope everyone exercised their right to vote last week. Isn't it so much more peaceful now -- no ringing phones, no television ads with candidates pointing out all the wrongs their opponents have done? Now if they will only work together in the best interest of our great country.

The Halloween decorations are hardly put away, Thanksgiving is a little over two weeks away and the Christmas catalogs are arriving! I am looking forward to Thanksgiving and my family coming for a few days. Depending on the weather, we could welcome 15 for Thanksgiving weekend. Let the housecleaning and baking marathon begin! I want my sons to remember the wonderful family holiday gatherings we had when they were growing up and, I want to make good holiday memories for my grandchildren.

If you didn't make it over to the Methodist Church on Friday to enjoy their annual bazaar and chicken Tetrazzini dinner, you really missed out! It was delicious as always.

Half of our display space this month is devoted to the Optimist Club and their great work. Be sure to take a few minutes to view their display and learn more about what they do and who benefits from their efforts. Looking for a group or organization to join and make a difference in your community? Information on the Optimist Club is available at the library.

A display of pumpkins, gourds and good reads featuring children and adult titles fills the remaining half of the library display space. Thank you McGarrah Farms for donating the pumpkins and gourds.

School children have been doing research projects using the library computers. So glad we are able to be of assistance to the kids.

We are working with an author of young adult books to host an evening book signing at the library early in December. Her books will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served. More on this in next week's column.

See you at the library!
