Students fare well in Special Olympics

From Staff Reports

Pea Ridge school students participated in Special Olympics. They have all worked really hard this year, their teacher said.

"Some of them have found that natural athletic ability," Heather Couch, teacher, said. "While others have learned the importance of being part of a team. They have all built self-confidence, while increasing coordination and motor planning skills.

"This has been an amazing year for the Special Olympics for the Pea Ridge Schools. We had several athletes place in the events. Our athletes have the best sportsmanship and try their very best at each event!"

"I am very proud of the effort my Primary School kids have put into Special Olympics this year. They have learned so much; I know that next year they will continue to build upon their gains they have made this year. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for them," Couch said.

"All of the kids are very excited and several have already been asking when do we get to go do Special Olympics again."

Awards won include: first in basketball and floor hockey, High School/Middle School team; third in floor hockey, Intermediate/Primary team; and several athletes placed first and second in bowling and swimming.

Twenty-three athletes participated this year. Events Pea Ridge students participated in were: flag football, aquatics, bowling, floor hockey and basketball.
