Brown gets 20 years for sexual assault

BENTONVILLE -- A Pea Ridge man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

Larry Dale Brown, 63, pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years. The plea was under an agreement Scott McElveen, Brown's attorney, reached with Stuart Cearley, chief deputy prosecutor.

Brown was arrested Jan. 2, 2013.

The girl told her stepmother about Brown touching her and Pea Ridge police were notified, according to court documents,

The girl was interviewed at the Children's Advocacy Center of Benton County and gave details of the abuse.

Brown admitted touching the girl.

Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Brown's guilty pleas.

Brown was sentenced to 20 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction for one count of sexual assault. He was given a 20-year suspended sentence for the other sexual assault count.

Brown will be required to register as a sex offender, and he can't have any unsupervised contact with any minors.

Brown must pay $2,120 in court costs. He received 33 days of credit for the time he spent in the Benton County Jail awaiting trial.
