Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

The Pea Ridge City Council voted to enter into an agreement with Billy Sisco to purchase a regulation-equipped ambulance.

The Pea Ridge High School graduating class of 1974 included 39 students. Their class motto was "Learn from yesterday, Live for today, Plan for tomorrow."

The county-wide 4-H bicycle ride was held on May 5 at the Pea Ridge National Military Park. Awards were presented to J. Wesley Sampier, oldest bicyclist; Sam Halioris, youngest bicyclist; and Ron McMasters, oldest bicycle. There were 117 people to participate in the 20-mile bicycle ride.

The Rev. Robert Richardson of Houston, Texas, was called by Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church. The church had been without a pastor for two years.

Pea Ridge Country Times

The Rogers School Board decided that Garfield Elementary School will remain in operation. They also decided to improve the school with necessary upgrades.

The Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County became operational and was awaiting its first calls Tuesday, May 15.

The PRHS 1984 valedictorian was Deena Jump and the salutatorian was Danny Prophet. The graduating class received $54,240 in scholarship money.

Election ads filled the paper with ads including some for Ronnie L. Smith, county judge; A.E. "Al" Norwood, county judge; Don Harrelson, sheriff; Mitchell Webb, justice of peace district 8; and Earl W. Boen, justice of peace district 8.

Pea Ridge High School senior Dani Dryden's entry in the Patriotic Art Competition sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary took the second place award at the state contest.

The fifth-grade science fair winners included a tie for first place. Winning first were Paul Hignight, Life on Mars, and Chris Wegner, Solar Energy. Other receiving awards were Jason Villines, Boggan Apel, Amanda Turner, Courtney Nelson, Michael Easterling and Alan Ellington.

The Pea Ridge High School band, under the direction of David Dickey, attended a nationally recognized music festival in Kansas City, Mo., and returned with an overall excellent rating for their concert performance. They received a plaque for their performance which received a grading similar to a B on a report card.

Deborah Leach of Garfield and a graduate of the University of Arkansas was a recipient of the Randall Tyson Memorial Scholarship. Leach was set to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo.

Pea Ridge had the largest class to graduated with 76 students walking for graduation.

Marin Hamilton received the first Garfield PTO scholarship for Thursday night at the Garfield Elementary family night and talent show. The scholarship was raised by saving box tops and Tyson A+ labels. Marin is the daughter of Rick and Laura Hamilton of Garfield.

Rainie Bray earned her Girl Scout Silver award for her toy drive project. The toys were given to Headstart and My Kids Daycare in Pea Ridge.
