Choose your destiny wisely

"Spirited," "progressive," "promising" and "fun" were all words used by our faculty to describe this year's graduating class. When I reflect on Pea Ridge's seniors and the vast accomplishments they achieved this year, there is little wonder why.

Our varsity cheerleaders won the State Championship again. Our volleyball team won the first round in the State Tournament. Our band recently received an Excellent rating and placed first in the 1A division in St. Louis. Our High School was named "Best High Schools" in the nation and the state by U.S. News and World Report. Our seniors will walk out of the assembly Thursday night with approximately $700,000 in scholarships! The list could go on and on, but the seniors were fundamental in making these triumphs a reality. I am very proud of these young ladies and men and cannot wait to see what their futures hold.

Politician William Jennings Bryan once said: "Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved."

I challenge the graduating class of 2014 to continue to be spirited and respectful as you progress to your destiny. Continue to be progressive and tolerant to those who need it the most. Continue to be promising individuals who make the best of your futures while being life-long learners. And continue to be fun while balancing your joyful attitude with the weight of adult responsibility.

God Bless You, Graduating Class of 2014!
