Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Five Pea Ridge band students brought home awards from the Regional Band Solo and Ensemble Contest. Those receiving awards were Jana Tripp and Diana Hanner, clarinet duet; Valerie Day, tenor sax solo; Norma Stephens, clarinet solo; and David Miser, tuba solo.

The Pea Ridge School board held its annual reorganization meeting and re-elected Keith Escue as president, Royle Carnes as vice president and Jack Lasater as secretary. They formally welcomed Tony Fletcher Jr. as a new board member.

The peach crop of northwest Arkansas was apparently wiped out by winter weather that struck the area following what had appeared to be spring for some weeks. In addition, the grape crop was damaged. Cattle growers were not hurt so badly, although Pea Ridge area farmers said that the grass was set back and would be later than usual. Pea Ridge weather observer Frank Price said that after the winter weather the night temperatures dropped to 21 degrees or even into the teens.

Pea Ridge Country Times

Superior ratings at the Region I Solo and Ensemble Band Contest were awarded to Tia Kvamso, Leon Laughlin, Brand McMath, Christy Johnson, Kim Hilleman, Mark Sheppard, Bobby Phillips and Margaret Gonce.

Johnny Johnson, of the Pea Ridge area, announced he was running for Benton County Sheriff. Mitchell Webb, of Pea Ridge, who was a Justice of Peace at the time, filed for re-election.

The members of the fifth class of first responders to graduate from the VAS program included DeDe Springer, Lyle Mahurin, Richard Hurd and Jim McBride.

There were 57 people at a meeting of the Lost Bridge Area Men's Club where County Judge Al Norwood promised the county would give priority to emergency snow routes members had requested. This meant certain roads in the county would be cleared first because of the need in the community.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Pea Ridge School Board voted no to a play teaching about sexually transmitted disease. The board discussed that parents and teachers should be involved with teaching facts from the medical side of this issue.

Beta Alpha Sorority observed 30 years of service.

The Pea Ridge Fire Department moved into a new building. Firefighters got the chance to test all their new equipment and were very impressed. They reported that there were 40 runs for the year as of March 30. In 1993, there were 52 runs all year.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Two new scoreboards were installed at Pea Ridge Day Memorial Park on Weston Street. The scoreboards were donated by Ozarka Water.

The Pea Ridge School Complex Historic District was nominated to be a registered historic place in Arkansas. The historic district included a 1929 colonial Revival-style school building, a Craftsman-style 1928 cafeteria building and a 1948 fourth-grade classroom structure.

The School District Strategic Planning Committee planned to have three town hall meetings. The meetings were planned so the public could ask questions about the upcoming election and why the school was asking for more tax money.
