Beta Alpha

Beta Alpha had annual officer elections. An installation ceremony was held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Pea Ridge.

New officers are James "Jim" Crews, president; Leslie Scannell, vice president; Tanna Whisenhunt, treasurer; Glorie Oxford, secretary; and Dorothy Williams, chaplain.

Pea Ridge Historical Society

The Pea Ridge Historical Society met at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in the Heritage Building.

The program for the meeting was Show and Tell. Everyone was encouraged to bring an item, or a picture, or a document to share with the group. We enjoy doing Show and Tell's from time to time, and everyone was invited to participate.

On Thursday, April 17, the Historical Society will host the first-grade classes from Pea Ridge Primary School to visit the Museum and Heritage Building. There are six classes, and we propose to have them all visiting on the one day. We need volunteers.

Pea Ridge Optimist Club

Congratulations to the winners of the Pea Ridge Optimist Essay Contest: Molly Sorrell, first place; Jonas Stewart, second place; and Katie Nunley, third place.

There are three students participating in the Club Oratorical Contest; they are: Tori Wilkerson and Kelsie Boyd, girls' division; and Justin Walls, boys' division. The contest was held Monday, March 24, in the high school library.

Joshua Johnson, director of Pea Ridge Alternative Learning Environment, spoke to the Optimist Club meeting on March 20. He advised his goal is to help students graduate in a learning environment. He has 20 students ranging in ages 14 to 18. He invited the Optimist members to have breakfast with the students just to visit with them.

The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be coming to Pea Ridge Sept. 10 with two shows -- 5:30 p.m and 7 p.m. The Lions Club is co-sponsoring the circus with the Optimist Club.

The Optimist Club will help decorate the Pea Ridge Community Library in May and November.

Congratulations to John and Sandy Lasater for being "Optimists of the Year." They will be recognized at the Optimist District meeting to be held at NWACC in Rogers, April 12.

The Pea Ridge Optimist Club meets at 6:45 a.m. the first and third Thursday of the month in the basement of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church. Visitors and new members are welcome.
