Prophet to be honored for service

Janita Prophet, a member of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, will be honored for her service as the early education teacher for 50-plus years by the congregation at the morning worship service at 11 a.m. March 23. A lunch will be held after the service.

Janita Beguin, with her parents and four brothers and two sisters, moved to Pea Ridge from Sioux City, Iowa, in 1948. Soon after, she joined Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church. She married Waymon "Rusty" Prophet and is the mother of Patsy Hurd, Randy Prophet and Danny Prophet, grandmother to Ryan, Alison, Ashley and Blair and great-grandmother to Ethan, Landry and Ava, all of whom she taught in her class along with many others.

Mrs. Prophet helped with Vacation Bible School, has been an active member at Mt. Vernon, served as deacon and is active in the Presbyterian Women's Bible Study group, Highway Clean-up crew, helped with the Banner Ministry, and is one of the church's best pie bakers. She is very active with Granny's Quilts of Love.

It is with sincere appreciation that the church members acknowledge her service to Mt. Vernon Church and the greater Pea Ridge community.
