Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

The city of Pea Ridge purchased its first city-owned police car. A 1972 Ford Galaxy was purchased for $2,100 from the estate of the late Clead Miller.

Pansey Gastineau was named chairman for Pea Ridge in the Breath of Life Campaign to fight children's lung diseases.

Mrs. Dot Webb was again employed to transport students who attend the Sunshine School in Vaughn from the district. Her salary was raised to $130 a month.

Phillips Food Center was selling a dozen eggs for 39 cents and a family-size case of soft drinks for $1.69.

More than 105 people attended the dedication of the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County at the VAS headquarters building in Garfield.

The Pea Ridge Food Store by G & G Corporation was sold to Dave and Janice Montgomery. G & G Corporation is owned by Lynn and Dollie Galyen. They had owned the store since 1980. Montgomery registered the store with IGA which would help stock the shelves with national brands.

Dwayne Peterson, son of Dennis and Karen Peterson of Garfield, with his partner David Whitlow, both students at Rogers High School, took eighth place in the nation in the Plymouth-AAA trouble-shooting contest in Arlington, Texas. The two won scholarships totaling $1,600 and $450 worth of tools and other items. They had to fix cars that were being controlled by experts to keep the vehicles from starting. There were 100 student mechanics entered in the contest.

Pea Ridge City Park plans showed nearly 12 acres as soon as the purchase of additional acreage closed. The City Council approved the purchase of just more than two acres from Greg Nesselhaulf for $9,300.

Pea Ridge School Board named Jerry David as Pea Ridge School District maintenance supervisor.

Shirley Borhauer, state representative, presented greetings from Governor Mike Huckabee to Lillian Dueker and Lucille Brown, with congratulations for reaching 103. Both ladies resided at Oak Ridge Retirement Community in Pea Ridge.

The Pea Ridge School Board filled several faculty vacancies. New faculty included Aaron Gaffigan, Middle School keyboarding and computer technology instruction; R.L. Self, Middle School physical education teacher; and Anita Teel, reassigned from Middle School to High School media specialist.

Nine students were inducted into the National Honor Roll, which recognized high-achieving high school and middle school students. The students inducted were Christopher Allen, Toby Dobbs, Jennifer Lauver, Ashley Morgan, and Amanda Ziese, all of Pea Ridge; Travis Dowell and Jennifer Griffith, Garfield; and Tasha Pippin and Jeremy Tate, of Seligman, Mo.

Andrew Puckett and Jayson Hawthorne caught a 2-1/2-foot alligator at the home of Herbet and Mary Townsend in Garfield. The alligator was released at the Petit Jean Wildlife Management Area.
