History Camp for Kids

Openings are still available for the Shiloh Museum's history camp for kids ages 11 to 14 years, to be held 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11. The theme is "1900s Arkansas." Campers will experience a different decade each day, from the 1910s to the 1950s, exploring topics such as wildlife conservation, the Olympics, fishing, old-time radio shows, gardening, baseball, TV shows, and popular dances. Cost for the camp is $70 for Shiloh Museum members and $80 for non-members, and includes lunch, crafts, and a ticket to the Wednesday, July 16, NWA Naturals baseball game. Space is limited; preregistration and payment is required. The registration deadline is Wednesday, June 25.

Life of an Ozark Folk Artist

Shiloh Museum outreach coordinator Susan Young will present a program entitled "A Real Satisfaction: The Life of Ozark Folk Artist Essie Ward," at noon Wednesday, June 18, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Baptist Church History

A daylong seminar on the history of Regular and Primitive Baptist churches in Northwest Arkansas will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. Sponsored by the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church, the event will include lectures, old-time singing, and dinner on the ground. "Many early settlers in the Ozarks were Baptists, known at that time as Regular Baptists and later, and still today, as Primitive Baptists," according to Carl Staten, pastor of the Little Flock church. "The history of Baptist congregations in Northwest Arkansas is a significant part of our regional heritage," Staten added.

Beaver Lake Concert

Folk duo Still on the Hill will present "Once a River: Story Songs of the Beaver Lake Watershed," at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. "Once a River" is a musical history of people and places along the White River, which was dammed in the 1960s to create Beaver Lake.

Poets Northwest, a group for people interested in writing and sharing original poetry, will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

The Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Herb Society of Northwest Arkansas

The Shiloh Museum's Photo Identification Group will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the museum to continue identifying people, places, and events in Northwest Arkansas photos taken over the last 40 years.
