Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Mark Lasater of Pea Ridge was one of 208 seniors who graduated from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lasater. He received a bachelor of arts degree and a $1,000 scholarship to the Methodist Seminary which was in Altanta, Ga.

Sherry Barnett, a 1974 graduate of Pea Ridge High School, was set to leave later in the month for Switzerland and a subsequent tour of European countries. She was one of nine American 4-H youth, who got to spend six weeks on farms in Switzerland as participants in the International Farm Youth Exchange.

The Future Homemakers of America officers attended the Leadership Conference in Russellville. Those attending were Yvonna Shrader, Brenda Lasater, Tammy Bouck, Diana Collins, Chris Livingston and Kim Webb.

Carole and Burel Singleton, the new managers of the Rogers/Pea Ridge KOA Kampground on U.S. Hwy. 62, were eager to meet their new Pea Ridge neighbors.

The Pea Ridge School Board approved the request of coach David Shinn for the purchase of shoulder pads and helmets, for the total of about $3,000. Superintendent James C. Carlton told the board that Shinn expected 62 junior high and 38 senior high boys to report for football practice.

In Pea Ridge country, 792 of the 3,494 eligible voters voted in the primary elections.

The Rev. Jack Glaze, former pastor of Gateway Chapel and first secretary of the Gateway Rural Water Association, was master of ceremonies for the GRWA dedication program. Glaze was instrumental in getting the project advanced to the acceptance point whereby the Farmers Home Administration would provide funding.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

On Sunday, May 29, Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church dedicated three trees and a small garden in memory of members of the church who had died. During the dedication, the youth group read the names of more than 120 deceased.

The Pea Ridge Elementary Select Choir and the Junior High Choir recently participated in the Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College's annual choral festival. The Junior High Choir received a 2+ rating and the Elementary Choir received a 1 rating. The 1 rating was the highest rating possible.

Al Fowler, Mary Beth Tennison and M.J. Hensley were approved by the Planning Commission to replace Jay Hale, Fred Spencer and David Hauser. These new members were to join Dr. Karen Sherman, Steve Bloxham, Eveta Hauser and Patty Villines.

Nikki Dover and Nathan See of Pea Ridge announced their engagement and wedding which was set for Saturday, June 19.

John McGee, art teacher at Pea Ridge Elementary and Middle school, received a $1,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation for being named Elementary Teacher of the Year.

The Advanced Placement government class visited the capitol building and spoke with State Senators David Bisbee and Jim Hill. Students who went on the trip included Brittany Arnold, Brittany Ferry, Missy Swanson, Summer Davis, Brianna Wright, Angela Tanner and Savannah Schwitters.
