Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Ruth Arnold, daughter of James Arnold of Pea Ridge, was crowned Miss Pea Ridge Community Fair.

A $500 donation from Mayor Jack Musteen to the Pea Ridge Community Library Board officials marked the beginning of a fundraising effort for the purpose of establishing a location for the library.

The new Pea Ridge School parent-teacher organization officers were Mrs. Jack Fidler, Mrs. Charles Hieman, J.D. Ramsey and Mrs. Don Smith.

Lisa Anderson was selected as Miss Pea Ridge Fair. Amy Wilkerson was selected as first runner-up and Miss Congeniality. Nicole Lee Adams was named Miss Tiny Tot and Alan Spivey was selected as Mr. Tiny Tot.

The citizens of Avoca petitioned the state to lower the speed limit on U.S. Hwy. 62. The petition had already received 234 signatures before two more accidents occurred on the road.

Honored guests at the fair were visitors 80 years of age or older. Those guests included Nell Webb, Mattie Snow, Dovie Crabtree, Don Adams, Herbert Stroud and Sybll Putman.

Internationally-known Rosemaler Claudine Schatz, Pea Ridge, participated in an advanced rosemaling class at Vesterheim, a famous Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah, Iowa. Mrs. Schatz taught the specialized techniques of rosemaling in many places across the United States and had authored a series of textbooks on rosemaling.

Julie Duncan, Pea Ridge 4-H, was selected as a representative during the 4-H citizenship program. The program included a mock legislative session led by Lt. Gov. Winston Bryant, Rep. John Paul Capps, Justice Steele Hays and other officials.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Pea Ridge School Board approved the purchase of two used school buses. They were 1992 International Ward diesels with 20,000 to 30,000 miles on them.

Signs were installed at the elementary school to make the road one way. The road had been two-way since the school was constructed.

The winner of the quilt raffled off by the Pea Ridge Fire Department was Julia Heins of Pea Ridge. She did not purchase a ticket but someone bought it for her. Heins had made more than 100 quilts and was happy to receive one made by her friends.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Mayor Jackie Crabtree led a City Council meeting and set up a growth plan for the city. The plan was a seven-year plan adding up to more than $7 million in costs.

Members of the Youth Conservation Corps were working during the summer at the Pea Ridge National Military Park rebuilding the historic fences, roads and fields. Members included Brittany Nunn, Robin Hignite, Lana Allen, Jeremy Childress, Trenton Talburt, J.D. Hendrix, Daniel Swan, Wesley Wilkinson and Shay Speer.
