Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

The Pea Ridge City Council voted unanimously to enter into a contract with the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District for the purpose of purchasing an emergency-equipped ambulance to meet federal regulations. The city then entered into an agreement with Sisco Funeral Home to operate it.

Coffee was selling for $.85 a pound, eggs at $.29 a dozen and tomatoes for $.29 a pound at Pea Ridge Grocery.

Fritz and Donna Steiger of Pea Ridge and Betina Zeh of Brightwater were among senior winners at the Benton County 4-H O'Rama in Bentonville.

Pea Ridge Country Times

A severe lightning and hail storm hit northeast Benton County damaging crops, wildlife and utilities. The hardest hit was an area from east of Pea Ridge to Beaver Lake.

Felix Patterson's corn was flattened by a hail storm on his farm on Twelve Corners Road. His tomatoes, cucumbers and other plants were also flattened. One tree had many limbs broken and more than 35 sparrows were killed by the hail.

Miss Pea Ridge contestants were Lisa Anderson, Stephanie Wright, Linda Yocum, Aimee Wilkerson, Ava Cloer and Michelle Collins.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Barbara Humphrey, daughter of David and Mary Humphrey of Pea Ridge, was crowned Miss Pea Ridge Community Fair. Sarah Kwarcinski was crowned Miss Tiny Tot and Bart Foster was crowned Mr. Tiny Tot.

Shirley Harris of Pea Ridge was selected as Emergency Medical Technician of the Year within the Pea Ridge Ambulance Department. Mrs. Harris was selected from among eight EMTs and six first responders.

The Rev. Bernice Patton retired from full-time duty at the pulpit. She was pastor of Pentecostal Holiness Church for 12 1/2 years.

Nine Pea Ridge students attended the Dixie Band Camp located at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway and placed well in one of six junior bands and four high school bands. Those who attended were Caleb Milne-Jones, Brian Stone, David Milne-Jones, Lacey London, Jodie Copeland, Christina McCool, Debra Wallace, Jennifer Wagner and Jennifer Waymack. Band director was David Dickey.

Kendra London, daughter of Rod and Goldie London, won the title of Miss Pea Ridge. Ashley Boller was named Miss Congeniality.

Jay Hale stepped down from his position on the Planning Commission after serving 30 years.

Putman Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the country's official list of historically significant properties.

Pea Ridge hosted the Senior Babe Ruth State Baseball Tournament, which included teams from Bentonville, Jonesboro, Greenland, Huntsville and Siloam Springs. Players on the Pea Ridge team included Dustin Lyons, Devin Snow, Jacob Powell, Dillon Carney, Josh Charlton, Jeremy Cobb, Bo Whitted and Aaron Clark.
