Pea Ridge online art gallery tops 400,000

The Pea Ridge Primary-Intermediate School online art gallery has now topped the 400,000 mark in online visitors in the five years the website has been operational.

One of the most visited websites among the 8,000 schools that exhibit their art on the worldwide internet art gallery, the local gallery holds the No. 1 ranking among art galleries in Arkansas and has the No. 11 ranking nationally. The recently completed school term marks the fifth straight year that Pea Ridge has received the No. 1 state ranking.

Helping mightily were the 131 Pea Ridge Primary and Intermediate students whose efforts have also served to help get them included into this year's Artsonia Hall of Fame Class.

To be included into this group, each student must have their parents/guardians register them on the Artsonia website, after which they must post at least five artworks, receive at least five favorable comments from internet viewers, and they must have attracted at least five fans in their online fan club.

"The Artsonia Hall of Fame is geared towards getting families involved in their children's education," John McGee, elementary art teacher, said. "Kids who have parents monitoring their work and efforts tend to do better work as they know they are getting support from home. The Artsonia experience has made a great difference in the quality of the work the students do."

"There are a lot of parents who don't have any idea of what kind of art work their kids are producing since the work they do often gets lost or destroyed before making it home. A students artwork here in Pea Ridge gets placed into a permanent online gallery where parents and students can always access that work, be it tomorrow or years into the future." McGee went on.

As of July 1, a new academic year has begun with new work and new comments to be added. Fans only have to sign up with their favorite student just once, and parent registrations are also only done once.

"Parents who register into Artsonia and become fans of their child will get emails containing their child's artwork as the work is completed," McGee said. "They will also receive emails and newsletters from the art teacher keeping them informed and current with what is going on at school relating to the art classes and events. It is really a great thing."
