High school alumni event slated

The annual Pea Ridge High School Alumni Day is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, in the Pea Ridge High School Cafeteria.

Sponsored by the PRHS Alumni Association, Alumni Day reunions bring together graduates of Pea Ridge High School from all years, along with other former students, teachers, administrators, school employees and school bus drivers. Since the origin of the Alumni Association in 2006, the Alumni Day Reunion has a tradition of recognizing the graduating classes of 25, 50 and 75 years ago. This year those will be the classes of 1989, 1964 and 1939. Several prizes will be given away, with drawings each hour.

When and where

9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12

Pea Ridge High School Cafeteria

Coffee and donuts will be available when the High School building and Cafeteria open for registration at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 12. Everyone is invited to come for visiting, renewing old acquaintances, catching up on news from old friends, and learning about recent developments involving Pea Ridge schools.

Before lunch, the alumni will elect three new members of the Board of Directors for the Alumni Association.

A sandwich lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Each year, several of the graduating classes use the Alumni Day weekend to hold their individual class reunions. Membes of the Alumni Association encourage the gatherings and offers to help arrange them. The Class of 1958 has held reunions every five years since 1958, and currently is holding a reunion every year. The Alumni Association appreciates receiving lists of class members and mailing addresses. PRHS classes have varied from as few as six graduating seniors in early years to around 120 in recent years.

Alumni returning to Pea Ridge for the reunion will have an opportunity to reminisce by visiting the School Heritage Building on the downtown school campus. Those who attended Pea Ridge schools in the 1930s will remember the building as the Agri/Shop Building. Those from the '40s, '50s, and '60s will remember it as the Hot Lunch Room. Later it served as a general classroom, school counselor's office, Art Room, and as headquarters of the S.E.E.K. student excellence program. The building is leased by the Pea Ridge Historical Society, and operates in conjunction with the Pea Ridge Historical Museum across the street. The Heritage Building displays highlights of some 140 years of Pea Ridge School history.

Both historical buildings will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
