Two arrested for fighting on bus

From Staff Reports

Two teens were arrested Friday for fighting on a school bus.

Pea Ridge Police said the mother of a 14-year-old student from Pea Ridge said her daughter had been hit by a 16-year-old girl while riding the school bus home from school Wednesday afternoon.

The 14-year-old girl told police that a 16-year-old girl "got in her face" accusing her of calling her brother names then "punched her in the eye." She told police an older boy restrained her arms while the girl hit her. The younger girl said she tried to defend herself.

The victim told police she had been bullied "for a while" and threatened for about a week.

Video of the fight shows fellow students trying to help the younger girl and the elder boy threatening another student.

The 16-year-old girl was arrested Friday evening for third-degree battery, cited into juvenile court and released to her parents.

The boy, Joey Atchison, 18, was arrested for felony terroristic threatening, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a minor in connection with that fight and transported to the Benton County Jail.
