Library use increasing

Last week 111 second grade students visited the library! There were 67 on Monday afternoon and 44 on Tuesday afternoon. There is nothing that can make a librarian's heart sing like seeing the expressions on those children's faces when they see all the books in the library. They were polite, respectful, quiet and full of questions. We loved having them there. Maybe this is the beginning of a tradition. Thank you students, teachers and parents for making this such an enjoyable event.

We were kept busy all week issuing new library cards and checking out books -- not only for second graders but for other new patrons as well. Welcome to all the new cardholders. We set a new record this past for users.

In last week's column, I mentioned that I was reading "Deadly Ties: A Waterside Kennels Mystery" by a local author, Susan Holmes. I could hardly put it down. It is a great read. The library copy is on loan but we will be glad to put you on the reserve list.

Don't forget to stop by the library to purchase raffle tickets for the quilt and afghan that we will be giving away on Thursday, Feb. 13. You do not have to be present to win.

We still have a lot of books and magazines on the free table. Also, there are lots of good used books for sale.

I know the forecast is for very cold temperatures this week but the library is warm and cozy. Come on by.

See you at the library!
