'Hawks defeat Wolves

Pea Ridge's Wyatt Holtgrewe hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points against Lincoln Friday night but it was his two fourth-period rebounds that proved critical for the Blackhawks.

Holtgrewe stopped a Lincoln 10-0 run with a stickback with three minutes left in the game for a 44-40 lead and then grabbed a rebound after a missed 3-point attempt by Lincoln that would have tied the game with eight seconds left. Holtgrewe was fouled on the play and he hit two free throws after being fouled with 6.7 seconds left as Pea Ridge stunned Lincoln 47-42 in a 4A-1 Conference game.

Pea Ridge (10-10, 5-3) seemed in control after Holtgrewe hit three 3-pointers during a 17-0 run that gave the Blackhawks a 35-27 lead late in the third period. Lincoln (15-1, 7-1) countered with a 10-0 run to cut the Pea Ridge lead to two but Holtgrewe stopped the bleeding with a stickback and his two free throws sealed the victory after his ninth rebound of the game in the final seconds.

"Wyatt played the best game of his career," coach Trent Loyd said. "He knocked down some threes, but he had some putbacks, rebounds and he stepped up and knocked down those two free throws. We were lucky that we got on a run that lasted a little longer than the others. Our kids really buckled down, defensively."
