Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

More than 300 area Boy Scouts and their leaders encamped near Pea Ridge with the tents pitched at the KOA on U.S. Highway 62 and the training field at the Pea Ridge National Military Park. A huge campfire program served as the finale for the two-night, one-day camporee.

About two out of every three people responding to a Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene poll did not want President Richard Nixon to resign or be impeached.

Dale K. Barnett of Gateway was one of 176 students in the University of Arkansas College of Business Administration named to the Dean's List for the fall semester.

Pea Ridge Country Times

The vocational agriculture building at Pea Ridge High School was progressing toward completion. School Board members decided to tour the new building at the next meeting.

Pea Ridge country volunteer firemen responded to five fires this week.

Unemployment in November, according to statistics that were released by the Employment Security Division, Department of Labor, in Benton County stood at 6.3 percent. Nationally, the unemployment rate stood at 8.1 percent.

Four consecutive days without school in Pea Ridge apparently curbed the spread of the flu on campus, said Marvin Higginbottom, school superintendent. Higginbottom closed the school on Friday, Jan. 14, with the thought that a long weekend might be sufficient for most flu sufferers to reach the non-contagious stage.

A Garfield man, John Patrick Coonce, 28, married with two children, was named a winner of the Northwest Arkansas Community College Golden Eagle award. Faculty members monthly nominated students for the award, which was based on academic ability, social awareness and personal development, interest and involvement in varied activities, interpersonal communication skills and commitment to education.

The contract to purchase two new patrol cars and one new fire truck for Pea Ridge was awarded to Bob Maloney Ford in Rogers.

Laurie Fowler of Pea Ridge was named to the Dean's List at Williams Baptist College for the fall 2003 semester. The Dean's List was comprised of those with at least a 3.5 GPA. Williams is a four-year, liberal arts college at Walnut Ridge, Ark.

Pea Ridge Head football coach Mike Harrod was selected to coach the Arkansas High School All-star game in Fayetteville.

The local school district strategic planning committee to proceeded with plans toward constructing the new junior high building. Superintendent Mike Van Dyke presented the committee with numbers that showed a need for 50 more classrooms in five years and more than 100 in 10 years.
