Library received several book donations

Life at the library is nothing if not interesting and challenging with all the snow, ice and rain we have been experiencing. The sunshine over the weekend was welcome and sure improved my mood. Sure hope Mother Nature allows us to experience mild temperatures for the remainder of the winter.

Library officials are working with teachers of the second grade classes of the Pea Ridge Schools in a Reading Challenge this month. The second grade students will be bused to the library at least once during the month to read and check out books. We will post a sign in the library as to the days/hours the students will be in the library so our patrons can plan their visits accordingly. The time they are in the library will be busy but the children are always well-behaved and quiet. Their visits are one of my favorite parts of being the librarian.

Parents, if you do not have a library card for your family, please stop by the library to complete the application. Be sure to bring your driver's license and a piece of mail showing your current address. A utility bill will work.

During the past few weeks, we have received several book donations. We received a very large donation of Reader's Digest Condensed books dating between 1970 and 2001. These, along with a large number of library discards, are being given away free. The books are on a table and bench in the computer area. A couple of these tucked away for a snowy day would be nice. Just hope the next snowy day is many months away!

Several hours have been spent on organizing the children's area and trying to group and display books so the children can better locate a book that is of interest to them. Beginning this week we will begin marking the children's book series with the Accelerated Reader Grade Level. This is going to take considerable time. Thankfully we have a volunteer who will be working on this project.

With the Library aide taking over some of the tasks, I hope to have more time to devote to ordering books, etc. Another project we will be undertaking is sending email reminders to patrons with over-due books.

The library has a limited number of DVDs that we are lending. These have all been donated to the library -- we just don't have the budget to purchase these -- and we are extremely grateful. We happily accept donations of DVDs. We are also in need a paper cutter and a paper shredder if anyone has one to donate.

We continue to accept donations of books, magazines, books on tape, and DVDs. Large print books are always appreciated. This past week we received a large box of children's books but have not had time to get them entered into the system and on the shelves. Another project for this week.

See you at the library!
