Alan Barton stood in front of his bench, pointed his finger at senior point guard Anna Rogers and said, "you better fix it before I get in there."

He was referring to Greenland's Kelsey Vaughn, who had missed a couple of open shots in the second quarter and had a look of defeat on her face.

Barton, who has directed the Lady Pirates to consecutive Class 3A state championships, put the job of restoring Vaughn's confidence squarely on the shoulders of his senior captain as the teams headed to the locker room at halftime.

Vaughn came out in the second half and scored 8 points as the Lady Pirates rolled to a 55-33 nonconference win over Pea Ridge Friday in nonconference girls basketball action. She was scoreless in the first half.

"She looked a little distraught," Barton said of Vaughn. "She's normally one of our better players. She just looked bug-eyed. So Anna went in there to fix it because that is our captain. Kelsey came back and had a good second half, so she fixed it."

Pea Ridge (4-9) kept the game close in the first quarter, which ended tied at 13-13. Senior Casi Caton was locked in from the perimeter as she scored 10 in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 19 points. Caton nailed three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and five for the game.

But the Lady Blackhawks also were hurt by turnovers as Greenland took a double-digit lead in the second quarter and never looked back.
