For the love of music

Stage Left Studio owners John Staib and Mark Epling offer music lessons as well as recording services.

Stage Left, located on Kay Lynn Drive, in Pea Ridge, is the culmination of a lifetime of love of music for the two men -- uncle and nephew.

Natives of Washburn, Mo., the two men often strum their guitars at Cherokee Casino.

"I play guitar," Epling said. "We're both working musicians."

Epling said he can teach guitar, bass guitar, drums, saxopohone and piano.

"We've traveled nationwide playing music -- country music -- all over the United States," Epling said. I play with a band called Beer and Chicken."

Epling said he taught in a parochial school (St. Mary's Catholic School, Pierce City, Mo.) for a couple of years.

Staib plays the drums, guitar and bass guitar. "I've played all my life since I was 5."

"We have everything for full production recording," Staib said.

Epling said they also provide technical training for using sound systems, both digital and analog consoles.

"We have three isolation rooms. The studio is set up to accomodate whatever the need is ... whether one person with a guitar or a church group. We can give vocal lessons as well," Staib said.

Recommending music lessons for children 7 years of age and older, the two men said they can teach to read by note as well as improvisation and music theory.

"My goal in starting the studio," Staib said, "was to have a place -- a recording studio -- that put out a good quality product that wasn't going to break everybody's budget.

"A church group can come in and make a CD that is a good quality that they were happy with that is reasonable to do, that they're satisfied. I want people to come out of there happy with what they've got."

Staib said the two can install sound systems and have done so at churches and clubs.

"We have a pretty wide gamut of different things we can offer," Epling said.

"We can do everything from commercial installation to a residential installation," Staib said.

Epling said he earned a degree from a recording workshop in Chilocothe, Ohio, a satellite school of University of Ohio, in 1989.

Staib and his wife Amanda, have two children Aaron, 9, and Elizabeth, 10. Epling and his wife, Sheri, have two grown children, Jacob, 23, and Jordan, 20.

Mark Epling, of Washburn, Mo., married, wife, Sheri, and two children, Jacob, 23, also a musician, & Jordan, 20
