Theft creates work for all; serious offense

Wasn't that little taste of Spring wonderful? Just sorry it wasn't here to stay! Perhaps we will all appreciate it more when it does arrive to stay! Am so anxious to plant something -- flowers or vegetables!

If you visited the library late last week, you are aware that we have removed all DVDs from our shelves, temporarily. It seems that someone is taking them. They are removing them from the case and then placing the case back on the shelf. I am just heartsick that someone could be so callous and uncaring. All the DVDs the library has were donated by our patrons and friends. We will now have to remove each DVD from its case and leave the case on the shelf. When a patron wants to borrow a DVD, the librarian will have to find the title in the storage case which means a longer wait time for all patrons.

If the person who took these DVDs is reading this, I am asking that you please place them in a sturdy box and put them in the drop box in front of the library. Theft of library property is theft of city property which is a serious offense. Is taking a few DVDs worth getting arrested? Dealing with things like this takes away from our time to be able to perform our regular library duties.

I don't understand why people steal at all but to steal from this library that all the community worked so hard to establish is incomprehensible to me.

On a happier note -- I went book shopping on Friday and again on Saturday -- can't go into Walmart or Sam's Wholesale Club without looking in the new book section. And it only made sense to stop by the Friendly Book Store since I was already in Rogers. I found a number of large print books there to add to our growing collection. My last stop at Barnes and Noble provided a few children and teen books as well as some adult new releases. Don't look for these to make it on our shelves until mid-week as it takes a good bit of time to get a book processed, wrapped and on the shelf.

The Second Grade Reading Challenge ended Feb. 20 and we should know the names of the winners this week. We really enjoyed seeing the children come in and check out books. Congratulations to all the second graders! We will list the winners in next week's column.

A few of our library patrons are currently dealing with some health issues and we want to let them know we are thinking of them and wishing them a speedy recovery.

I just want to say thank-you to all our patrons who use and support our library. We appreciate all of you and are thankful for your support.

See at the library!
