Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Fifth-grade students of Maxine Morrison at Pea Ridge Elementary School received a letter from President Richard Nixon as a response to letters the students had written to him.

The junior class at Pea Ridge High School hosted a combination of plays as a fundraiser for the junior-senior prom and banquet.

An award was presented to Eva Patterson on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce for her 25 years as secretary to the Chamber of Commerce.

The Pea Ridge senior citizen nominating committee submitted a list of new officers, which was accepted unanimously. New officers were Albert McKnight, president; Myrt Groen, vice-president; Violette Easton, secretary; and Alberta McKnight, treasurer.

Bill Clinton, a University of Arkansas law professor, announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Congress from the third district. Republican John Paul Hammerschmidt was the incumbent.

Pea Ridge Country Times

A snowstorm hit Pea Ridge causing school to be canceled and farmers to milk their cows by hand because the electricity was out. The snow depth measured 10-15 inches at ground level with drifts up to six feet.

Pea Ridge City Marshal Doug Carson was injured when his car crashed into a tree. He was pursuing a vehicle which led him on high-speed chase through the area. He was treated and released from Bates Memorial Hospital in Bentonville.

Three Pea Ridge graduates -- Lance Jobe, Cindy Walker and Sherrie Ragland -- were named to the fall semester Chancellor's List at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Seventh-grade students Kathie Rusher, 12, daughter of Hartsall and Rose Rusher of Pea Ridge, and Cace Smith, 13, son of Diana Smith of Pea Ridge, represented Pea Ridge in the Benton County Spelling Bee.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Pea Ridge High School Quiz Bowl team won first place at the Arkansas Governor's Quiz Bowl Association AA Regional Tournament which was held at Pea Ridge High School. Team members included Jesse Harness, Andy McMinn, Caleb Duvall, Shea Spear, Kelsi David, Lauren Littrell, Jennifer Hohn, Terrie Wilkerson and Savannah Schwitters.

Adam Ash, Cylie Laughlin, Caleb Duvall, Jessica Schwyhart and Stefanie Guthrie made the All-Region Band for 2004. They were invited to a "super clinic" held in Springdale.

Heather Henson, daughter of Billy and Vicky Henson, was named to the Dean's List for the fall of 2003 semester at College of the Ozarks. Henson graduated from Pea Ridge in 1999.

Pea Ridge teacher John McGee was selected to serve as chairman of the Arkansas AAU Association's athletics program. McGee was also a master certified United States Track and Field official and was one of the meet officials who was set to work the NCAA National Division I Indoor Track Championships held in Fayetteville.
