Planning summer during winter months

Aren't you happy that the library finally expanded their hours only to be closed due to the snow and ice? Like most of you, I am so ready for sunshine and warmer temperatures -- remind me of this statement in July and August when I am complaining about the heat and humidity!

The Library Board met this past week with a very long agenda. Some of the topics we discussed were the 2014 meeting dates, second-grade reading challenge, a summer story hour, the summer reading program and several other items.

Another topic of discussion was the display shelves in the front of the library. It has been suggested that we ask the various civic groups in the area if they would be interested in choosing a month to use that space for a display relating to their cause -- Granny's, Lions Club, Optimist Club, Historical Society, 4-H Clubs, etc. Call the library for information. This would be a great way to let the community know about the good works you do.

The Summer Reading Program will run July 7-24. More detailed information will be posted at the library as well as being sent home with the school children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Prizes will be awarded at a party after the contest ends.

I have spoken with Ms. Beth regarding the Summer Story Hour. We will talk again after her graduation this spring. She did a fantastic job last summer. Having a fenced in area behind the building will allow us to have some of the story hours outside.

Time is running out to purchase raffle tickets on the quilt and afghan for $1 each or six for $5. All proceeds will be used for books, etc. at the library. The library always has more wants and needs than money -- think this is true of all libraries. Our long range goal is to complete the "unfinished" room. To accomplish that will require approximately $55,000. With your support, we were able to turn the "clinic" into a beautiful library and with your support we can get the remainder of the building finished.

Stay safe in this crazy winter weather. Remember if the Pea Ridge Schools are closed, the library is closed. Check our Facebook page for updates.

See you at the library!
