After previous years showing deficits or white-knuckled close class, the City of Pea Ridge has adopted a year's budget that reflects the 1 cent sales tax passed last spring, gives all employees a seven percent increase in pay, takes some second looks at a few items and everybody is heaving sighs of relief. The budget adopted Dec. 31 shows these figures: general fund, total receipts anticipated for 1985, $91,755.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

On Dec. 22, the Seligman City Council, in a telephone closed emergency meeting, voted to terminate the employment of police officer Brandon Bivens. Bivens was recently suspended for two weeks because of an altercation during a traffic stop. Bivens had requested a hearing to appeal his suspension, after which the council voted to uphold the suspension.

A renter and property owner shared the financial responsibility for an unsightly residential dump-site cleanup. In mid-November, Benton County Environment Services ordered a mobile home renter on North Wimpy Jones Road in Garfield to clean up the illegal dump site within 30 days. The illegal dump was located in the gully behind the mobile home. David Cones, Benton County environmental officer, said the site was clean with the exception of a few appliances and truck parts. The cleanup required four 30-cubic-yard Dumpsters. It took almost one week to clean the area. There was a lot of junk in there.
