Water woes short-lived

A precautionary boil order was issued Friday after Pea Ridge Water Department employees found a burst line.

"It's a line put in in the '80s," Ken Hayes, Water Department superintendent, said. "It was not beded properly -- it was sitting on a rock and the line blew."

Hayes said the break was discovered when employees saw water in a field and began investigating the source of the leak. He said the water pressure fell forcing the issuance of the boil order.

Water Department employees hung notices on 238 doors, residences and buildings west of Barris Lane, including First Baptist Church.

"That is the preferred method by the Health Department," Hayes said, adding that notices will be hung on the same doors when the boil order is lifted. A water sample was sent to the State Health Department for testing and as soon as the results are back, possibly as early as Thursday, the boil order will be lifted.
