Answering a challenge from Gravette football coach Bill Harrelson and the Gravette Lions, Pea Ridge Blackhawks were doused with ice water and then sprayed with a water hose by the Pea Ridge Fire Department firefighters Wednesday after practice.

"Hey this is Coach Tony Travis ... we've been challenged by Bill Harrelson and the Gravette Lions," Travis said, introducing Blackhawk Brent Ferguson.

"This is the disease that we lost my grandma to a few years ago. So, thank you to my team mates for participating in this ALS awareness," Ferguson said.

"Challenge accepted!" Travis said.

"We're going to pass it on to Farmington Cardinals and Mike Adams. You're on the clock. This is how we do it in Pea Ridge."

And then, sophomore and junior Blackhawks picked up buckets and ice chests full of ice and ice water dumping it over the seniors and coaches. As they yelled and cheered, all the Blackhawks were sprayed with water from a fire hose by the Pea Ridge Fire Department firefighters.

"We wanted to do it twice as big as Gravette," Travis said, explaining that Gravette had issued the challenge via Facebook on Tuesday evening.

Coaches and players, although initially shocked by the cold water, seemed to appreciate the cooling off after a hot afternoon of football practice on an extremely hot August afternoon.
