The Garfield City Council voted to accept the resignation of Helen Dye as city clerk and voted to appoint Jane Davis to succeed her.

Pea Ridge's new Benton County Health Clinic began at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church and a total of more than 50 people received tests and/or immunizations in the two hours from 10 a.m. to noon. Among those using the new clinic were Pea Ridge teachers, who came over in groups to receive their skin and blood tests.

Through a letter to members of the Pea Ridge City Council, City Marshal Doug Carson announced his appointment of Roger Harris of Pea Ridge as deputy city marshal, effective Sept. 1.

Beta Alpha Sorority was given a permanent home by members of the Pea Ridge Extension Homemakers. Beta Alpha was offered and accepted free use of the upper floor of the E.H. building in recognition of the sorority's long and continued community service. The agreement provided that no rent would be charged and the sorority would be responsible for its own utility expenses.

Joyce Barnett of Gateway was named 4-H Leader of the Year during the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the 1984 Arkansas 4-H O'Rama.

Members of the Pea Ridge Men's Fellowship Breakfast were given a tour of the Pea Ridge Sewage treatment plant by Charles Hardy and Ron David.

A new real estate firm, North Shore Realty, opened an office in Garfield and its broker says it will serve all of northeast Benton County and, eventually, southern Missouri.

Gary David and Floyd Johnson of Pea Ridge pulled in a 41-pound hump-back or hybrid catfish while fishing with jugs at Prairie Creek.

Battlefield 4-H held a bike-a-thon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Riders, walkers and skaters completed laps on the Pea Ridge school grounds.

Sherman Drymon, the developer of Windmill Estates, spent $4,000 to have the old windmill restored.

Sixteen students attended the Dixie Band Camp at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Band members included Rainie Bray, Sammy Serio, Josh Hall, Danny Anderson, Caleb Duvall, Lauren Littrell, Patricia Butler, Jesse Harness, Adam Ash, Rebecca Schliesman, Alex Wilson, Matt Plunkett, Ashley Mayes, Breanne Brewer, Daniel Hamilton and Katria Butler.

The 2004 Blackhawk football coaches included senior head coach Mike Harrod, senior assistant coach Mark Laster, senior assistant coach John King, junior high head coach Curtis Shannon, junior assistant coach Aaron Gaffigan and junior assistant coach Kyle Farrar.
