Book donations continue to pour in

Story hour on hold until after Labor Day

I took two days off last week to spend time with my family -- four of my five sons and their families where here from St. Louis and Houston. It is a rare treat when that many of us can get together. What a fun and exhausting time I had playing with my four grandsons and one granddaughter -- ages 2 months to 9 years. They visited the Pea Ridge National Military Park and War Eagle Cave to see the bats. There was so much laughter and noise in the house and now it is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. They have only been gone a few hours and already we are missing them.

With the summer winding down and another school year beginning, the Story Hour at the library will be taking a break. There will not be a Story Hour until after Labor Day. Watch this column and the library Facebook page for information on when we will start again.

The Dig Into Reading Contest sponsored by Subway is ending on Aug. 30. If your child signed up and has not read the required 10 books to receive a free child's meal from Subway you need to bring them in the library to check out some grade-level books.

When I wrote about our Summer Reading Program a couple of weeks ago I failed to say thank you to our new Neighborhood Market for the donation of cupcakes and a thank you to Blue Bell Ice Cream for the donation of chocolate and vanilla ice cream cups. These were a big hit with the children.

Book donations continue to pour in and we are getting some very good children's, teen and adult books. I am always excited when we have donations of non-fiction books. Our library is very fortunate to get many new releases donated by our patrons. Those donations sure help us stretch our budget dollars.

Please be extra cautious as you drive these next few weeks. Excited children don't always remember to look before crossing the street. Let's keep our children safe.

See you at the library!
