Robert Lee 'Bob' Henderson

Robert Lee "Bob" Henderson, 80, of Wichita, Kan., died unexpectedly on July 30, 2014. The youngest of seven, Bob was born to Herman Gentry and Tona Pearl Henderson of Pea Ridge, Ark.

No matter where he lived, Bob had a network of friends. Quick to laugh and always willing to have fun, he could also be serious when necessary, making him the person you would call if you needed help.

Mechanically gifted, there was no car he couldn't fix or drive. He passed along his ethic of hard work, perseverance and the importance of doing the right thing.

He was as honest as the day is long and held true to himself till the very end, expressing gratitude to hospital staff for their good care of him.

Bob worked all over, including in New Mexico with the U.S. Army at Red Canyon Range Camp, in Kansas with Thomson-Hayward and Boeing Aircraft, and Missouri and Texas with Amoco Oil retiring in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Doris; and also by his sister, Mary Agnes King; and brothers, Wayne and Ralph Henderson.

Survivors include his five children, Tona Henderson and partner, Katie Clark, of Penfield, N.Y., Pete Henderson and wife, Anita, of Independence, Mo., Donald Henderson of San Jose, Calif., Vivian Love and husband, Scott, of Overland Park, Kan., and Betsy Henderson-Grant and husband, David Grant, of San Diego, Calif.; his surviving siblings, Lela Spangler of Frisco, Texas, Bonnie Woods of Rogers, Ark., and H.G. Henderson and wife, Mary Jo, of Pea Ridge, Ark.; and four grandchildren, Brandon and Sean Henderson of Independence, Mo., and Mason and Olivia Love of Overland Park, Kan.

Funeral arrangements were by Affinity All Faiths Mortuaries of Wichita, Kan. (316-263-0707).

Visitation was at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Affinity Mortuaries Chapel, 2310 East Lincoln, Wichita, Kan., with a memorial service following within the Affinity Mortuaries Chapel.

Burial, immediately following the memorial service, was at the Belle Plaine Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Kan.

A reception followed at Belle Plaine United Methodist Church at 124 E. 10th, Belle Plaine, KS 67013.
