Junior Lady 'Hawks take 3rd

The Lady Blackhawk Junior Girls track team captured a pair of relay titles en route to finishing third in the 4A-1 District Track Championships last week.

Ozark was an easy winner of the competition, scoring 172 to clinch early. Second was Berryville with 125 followed by Pea Ridge, 91; Gravette, 70; Gentry, 56; Farmington, 44; Lincoln, 27; and Prairie Grove, 20.

Seventh-grader Katelyn Swope was the lone individual champion for the 'Hawks with the fledgling distance ace racing to a 6:13.2 victory in the 1,600 run. Swope also ran a leg on the 'Hawks' victorious 4x800 relay team which won in 11:38.69, nearly half a minute ahead of second-place Gravette. She was joined by Aurora Hupp, Melissa Landis and Davis.

Landis was the team's high point athlete for the meet, scoring 18 on the day. She was third in the 400 (1:09.7) and discus (64'5"), eighth in the triple jump (26'11") and ran legs on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relays. The 4x400 relay won in 4:51.6 and was made up of Landis, Davis, Alley Wilson and Krystle Parmenter.

The Blackhawk's third relay, the 4x100, finished third in 58.74. That team was composed of Parmenter, Emma Stein, Nicole Turner and Kiera Bryant.

Other individual scorers included: Krystle Parmenter, third, 100 (14.23), eighth 200 (31.06); Alley Wilson, sixth 400 (1:11.8); Aurora Hupp, third 1,600 (6:48.7), seventh 800 (3:03.8); Kiera Bryant, second 100 hurdles (18.74), fifth high jump (4'4"); Avery Dayberry, sixth high jump (4'2"); Alexis Cotton, eighth shot put (27'2"); and Meredith Mitchell, second discus (65'5").
