Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Brightwater named Lucy Mayfield as honorary mayor of the town. She served as the church organist, taught Sunday School, and helped with Vacation Bible School.

There was an advertisement in the paper that Richard Haswell was selling 37 mixed breed laying hens for $1.75 each, six geese for $5 each and six turkeys for $10 each.

The Pea Ridge School Board voted to rehire teachers within the district including Dallas Lafleur, band; Charles Phillips, agriculture; Wanda Roe, home economics; and Verna Dodd, business.

Pea Ridge Country Times

The sale of the Lost Bridge Lodge from the Pine Cone Corp. to Western Development Corp. of Lakeland, Colo., was confirmed. The new owners said that the lodge would be known as Beaver Lake Lodge and Resort. The building's interior was being redone. The rooms were being made into condominiums to be sold on a time share basis. The restaurant and club room would still be open to the public.

Shelby Knapp was installed as president of Beta Alpha Sorority. Other officers included Billie Beeson, Mary Jane Pistole, Ruth Talburt, Pat Patterson, Virgie Hazelton and Ilse Beckmann.

Blackhawk baseball pitcher John King struck out 13 batters in four innings played. He originally struck out 12 batters but because of a drop-third strike where the runner safely made it to first, he had to record another strike-out.

The Eva Patterson Pioneer Spirit award was present to Pea Ridge Postmaster Debbie Anderson. The Fred McKinney leadership award was presented to the Rev. Pam Bolerjack, pastor of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church.

Beta Alpha celebrated 30 years of service. The members for 1994 included Jean Plummer, Ginny Kraus, Elizabeth Baker, Mary Jane Pistole, Ruth Talburt, Dorothy Williams, Shelby Knapp, Louise Smith and Virgie Hazelton.

City officials considered the purchase of a new fire truck, two new tractors, a street sweeping broom, two pick-up trucks, a four-wheel drive vehicle, street lights, a bucket truck, an emergency power system, storm sirens, a storage building and the reworking of Greene Street. They signed a bond agreement with Crews and Associates of Little Rock for $510,000 in bonds on three percent interest. They were set to make 60 monthly payments of $9,100.

Heather Henson was recently honored as the Outstanding Physical Education Major of the Year from College of the Ozarks by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.

Pea Ridge City Council members decided to grant a lot size variation to the developer of Windmill Estates. The lot size minimum was lowered to 10,600 square feet from 12,000 square feet.
