Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Extremely high winds were blamed by SWEPCO officials for two downed wires that cut off power for part of Pea Ridge for three hours and the whole town for a lesser length of time. The first line fell on Davis Street. The second line was two miles south of Pea Ridge.

Pea Ridge United Methodist Church was named Church of the Year in the North Arkansas Conference.

Pea Ridge FHA girls attending the state convention in Little Rock were Robin Whisenhunt, Cheryle Snow, Sherry Barnett, Gwen Gastineau, Gwen Hickman, Bethie Howard, Diana Collins, Brenda Lasater, Tammy Bouck, Diana Wilkerson, Cheryl Wilks and Yvonna Shrader.

Pea Ridge Country Times

The residents of Garfield and Gateway met with County Judge Al Norwood to request that U.S. Highway 62 be upgraded. The judge agreed and sent letters to the landowners along the road asking for a 50-foot right of way. Two miles were being planned to be upgraded.

The winners of the annual patriotic art contest sponsored by the Pea Ridge Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary were Dani Dryden, Robbie Scales, Nancy Merritt and Bryan Miller.

Junior high athletes were honored at a banquet. The basketball award winners included Stacey Collins and Mark Sheppard, offense; Michelle Martin and Grant Hardin, rebounding; Kari Aubrey and Wesley Wilkerson, most improved; and Dawna Patterson and Kern Sorrell, hustle.

Johnny Bone, Pea Ridge, was fourth in the standings of stock car drivers at Tri-State speedway, in Ft. Smith, with 65 points.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Two foreign exchange students arrived in Pea Ridge in January 1994. Judith McClafferty was from Brisbane, Queensland, and Rohan Waterson was from Inverell, New South Wales. The students got to try new experiences such as driving a tractor and eating Mexican food.

Wanda Roe was one of a group of 25 people visiting Italy. The party was in Rome during Holy Week and were present on Palm Sunday when the pope gave his blessings at St. Peter's Basilica.

The Garfield Water Department was expected to undergo a major expansion in the next two years before hooking on to the new Two-Ton Water System, according to Garfield Mayor Wanda Mahurin.

Sherman Drymon, developer of Windmill Estates in Pea Ridge, planned to appeal the Planning Commission decision to deny lot variances to for the subdivision. Sixty-five residents expressed their desire that Pea Ridge not reduce lot sizes for a single-family dwelling from the required 12,000 square feet.

The Pea Ridge High School talent show included the PRHS Drama Club, a band called "These guys," Adam Ash and a band named "Pythagorean Theorem." Michelle Helton won first place for singing "I Will Always Love You."

Adam Robbins and Shawn Woods, Pea Ridge baseball players, both pitched complete-game, no-hitters during the double-header against Johnson County Westside.

John King was honored for recording his 300th win. He was the seventh coach in Arkansas high school history to reach this milestone.
