The United Methodist Church of Pea Ridge was nominated for an award for their growth and progress within the local community.

Officials from the Pea Ridge School District announced that they planned for a two-day holiday in connection with Easter. Plans included no classes on Friday, April 12, and Monday, April 15.

Benton County Judge Ralph Bolain signed a proclamation for the week of March 31 through April 6 as Benton County's Action for Foster Children Week.

Two new school buses were delivered from Georgia to the Pea Ridge School District.

Officials with Tyson Foods Inc. announced their proposal for an $8 million processing plant in Pea Ridge. The plant was proposed to process pet food ingredients, feather processing for feeds, poultry fat and meat and bone meal.

President of the Gateway Rural Water District, Bill Schnitzer, said that after 40 years of trying to develop a water system and three and a half years after the first board was named, Gateway was getting ready to have clean running water.

The Rev. George Hunt, former pastor of First United Methodist Church, Pea Ridge, was honored during Older Worker Week by ABLE. Hunt, 74, a childcare worker at Ozark Guidance Center's Habberton House in Springdale, was one of five Arkansans selected to receive the award.

About 400 acres at the Pea Ridge National Military Park were burned to help restore the landscape to its appearance at the time of the Battle of Pea Ridge.

Dorothy Williams, Beta Alpha Pea Ridge, was named vice president of Region I of the Arkansas Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sororities.

Pea Ridge school bands participated in the Region I Solo and Ensemble Festival. Those receiving superior ratings included Lacey London, Caleb Milne-Jones, Debra Wallace, Christina McCool, Stephanie Lyons, Sabrina Root, Jodie Copeland, Meranda Bartlett and Jennifer Wagner.

Carmen Synder of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church organized the Good Friday service which was presented by the Community Choir. Andrea Ricketts directed the choir. Other members of the community choir included Norma McCullough, Robin Hardy, Judy Palmer, Phyllis Felkins, Mary Ann Hardy, Kay Bucheri, Kim Brown, Wanda Baker, Anthony Baker, Harry Palmer, David Palmer, Clint Bowen, Truman Steel, Judy Higginbottom and Peggy David. Jane Cooley served as pianist. The service had more than 100 people in attendance.

Steve Adams was selected as the speaker for the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.

NEBCO volunteer firefighter Jim Linstruth received the Fireman of the Year award. The Governor's Service Recognition awards were presented to Rob Taylor, Rick Weidner and Gary Snoderly. Four new board members were elected to the NEBCO board of directors including Laura Hamilton, Jerry Sheridan, Jim Townsend and Jim King.

Pea Ridge Schools superintendent Mike Van Dyke hosted several town hall meetings to discuss the need for the 5-mill tax increase. This tax increase was set to fund the construction of the new junior high.
