Banana split dessert

Recipe by Katie and John Rhine, in the 2008 Cook's Library of Treasures published by

the Pea Ridge Community Library

1 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs

3 bananas

1/2 gal. Neapolitan ice cream

1 c. nuts, chopped

1 c. chocolate chips

1 stick margarine

2 c. powdered sugar

1 1/2 c. evaporated milk

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 pt. whipping cream

Spread 1 cup graham cracker crumbs over bottom of 9- by 13-inch baking dish. Split bananas lengthwise and place over top of crumbs. Slice ice cream 1/2-inch thick and lay over bananas. Sprinkle half the nuts over top of ice cream; freeze. Melt chocolate chips and margarine together. Blend in powdered sugar and evaporated milk. Boil for 2 to 3 minutes. Add vanilla and cool thoroughly. When cool, pour over top of frozen ice cream mixture. Whip the cream and spread over top. Sprinkle with remaining crumbs and nuts. Keep frozen until ready to serve. Serves 8.
