The Rogers branch of the American Association of University Women met at Mrs. Roy Roe’s home. The president announced the subject they would study throughout the year was media, issues in communications and global interdependence.

The Future Homemakers of America, Pea Ridge branch, gave the FHA mother honors to Dot Webb of Pea Ridge.

The Blackhawk football team played in the rain against Decatur. Gary Brown had 93 yards rushing and Alan Ash had 27 yards. Jackie Ford, defensive player of the week, had a blocked punt, fumble recovery and 16 solo tackles.

Pea Ridge Elementary School students were helping raise money for Utah’s Zoo, Pea Ridge. The students wrote letters about why the zoo was important to Pea Ridge. A majority of the students agreed that the zoo was a great addition to the tourist attractions in the town.

The Pea Ridge Free Will Baptist Church had set to dedicate their new church building on Sunday, Oct. 21. The church was on Lee Town Road and South Davis Street. The new building included a sanctuary, four classrooms and restrooms.

The Pea Ridge 4-H County winners were Danny Parrish, Kelly Hale, Jerry Beaver, George Patton, Becky Parrish, Wesley Billington, Stephen Billington and Michael Billington. The Garfield winners were Laurie Robbins, Jennifer Patton, Brian Patton and Lisa Robbins.

The winners of both the spring and fall softball league in Pea Ridge was the Woodstock No. 1 team. The players included Ronnie Hurd, Jackey Cargile, Mike Webb, Rob Taylor, Robin Ivy, Gary Ramsey, Larry Wallace, Terry Ramsey, Larry Snoderly and John Dye.

Eight Pea Ridge High School students competed in the Scott’s Hi-Q academic competition. The team included Melissa Webb, Kim Hileman, Danny Prophet, Chris Merritt, Deena Jump, Kelly Stokes, Dani Dryden and Greg Mayfield. The team had to compete against Rogers, Bentonville, Decatur, Fayetteville, Gentry, Shiloh Christian, Elkins and Springdale.

The Blackhawk football team recorded a shutout victory over Cedarville 27-0. The player who had the best game was Brian Easley, who caught two touchdown passes against Cedarville.

A reception was held honoring Mitchell Webb on his 90th birthday and his retirement from the Arvest Bank Board of Directors. Guests included his family from around northwest Arkansas and parts of Texas.
